The Marc Sinan Company enriches the scene of independent ensembles of European contemporary music with a focus on three essential aspects of content: collective memory as well as media and cultural diversity and permeability. Since 2008, the company’s projects have addressed socially immanent themes and artistic approaches to collective remembrance, such as the commemoration of the Shoah in the oratorio Gleissendes Licht, the victims of the so-called NSU in Manifest(o), the confrontation with the Armenian genocide in Komitas and Aghet, or the memory of the trauma of the Second World War in Different Bombs. At the same time, the focus is on media and technological innovation, such as in the Human Commodity app on the subject of forced labor in Berlin, the integration of artificial intelligence and interactivity in the science fiction installation Oumuamua, the interactive church organ in Dekalog or immersion and virtual reality in the collaboration with West African artists, Am Anfang. The company’s approach is also post-migrant and transcultural, in the sense of a natural representation of diversity, for example in the longing project Hasretim, a musical journey in the footsteps of traditional musicians along the coast of the Black Sea, the Uzbek road movie Oksus or the transmedia Chinese-German cooperation Survival. Based in Berlin, the Marc Sinan Company develops its award-winning productions with numerous international artists and orchestras. Under the artistic direction of Marc Sinan, the musicians Oğuz Büyükberber, Susanne Fröhlich, Daniel Eichholz, Meinrad Kneer and the music dramaturge Holger Kuhla realize concerts, performances, installations and music theatre projects worldwide in alternately expanded line-ups. Among the renowned guests are Du Yun, Sara Glojnaric, Iva Bittová, Kettly Noël (Mali), Ulzhan Baibussynova (Kazakhstan), Ensemble ConTempo Beijing (China), the Djiguiya Orchestra (Mali), Ensemble Resonanz (Hamburg), Neue Vocalsolisten (Stuttgart) and many more. Cooperation partners include the Humboldt-Forum Berlin, Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Kampnagel Hamburg, Kunstfest Weimar, Residenztheater Munich, Oper Halle, Oper Wuppertal, Nationaltheater Weimar, Philharmonie Jena, Buchenwald Memorial, Documentation Center for Nazi Forced Labor in Oberschöneweide, Musik der Jahrhunderte Stuttgart. The MSC projects have received several awards, e.g. from UNESCO and the German Record Critics’ Award. The Marc Sinan Company has its own venue, the Spreehalle Berlin, and runs and curates the online label www.pantopia-music.org.
