In Marc Sinan’s contemporary variation on the myth, love is not metaphysical, but its victory consists simply in survival, in carrying on after loss. SURVIVAL is the name of the transmedial music performance. And it addresses the highly topical question of how togetherness is possible despite distance. The three-part series under the title ENDLESS PLEASURES 2019 was created as a German-Chinese collaboration. Then came Covid-19 and not only the entry of the ensemble ConTempo Beijing has become impossible. The pandemic-related distance requirement is reflected on many levels in the piece: the musicians concertized spatially isolated from each other and the death of the lover in the story can also be interpreted as suffering from the distance to the counterpart. Marc Sinan’s score overwrites traditional music from Asia and Europe and combines it with improvisations by the participating ensembles from China and Europe: contemporary music of hypnotic, trance-like intensity.
